By Mother and Daughter Artists Phyllis Horne and Karen Horne
Continuing the Art Legacy of Alice Merrill Horne

Utah State Capitol
4th floor, NorthEast and SouthEast wings

On view during the Legislative Session
January 21 – March 7th

Phyllis Horne and Karen Horne are thrilled to present their complementary visions of Utah in a stunning exhibition at the Utah State Capitol, 4th floor, East. Fans will enjoy seeing paintings created over the artists’ careers, including a number of never or rarely seen paintings from family collections, as well as a seminal work loaned from the Alice Merrill Horne State of Utah Art Collection. The show will be open to the public during the Utah legislative session, Jan. 21- March 7th.

Stephanie Angelides, the curator of the Capitol Preservation Board, shares her insights on the exhibit:

“This presentation brings together the complementary yet distinctive visions of rural and urban Utah from artists Phyllis Horne and her daughter Karen Horne. It reflects a legacy of art-making and appreciation that has run through the Horne family dating back to arts advocate, artist, and legislator, Alice Merrill Horne. It includes never-before and rarely-exhibited works from the Horne family collections.

Coming from families immersed in art culture and appreciation, Phyllis and Karen Horne continue the legacy of their ancestors while also contributing directly to the world’s art landscape through their own compelling and moving artworks.”

The show offers the visitor a peek from around the state of Utah. Enjoy a selection of gems by Phyllis Horne- including an early dynamic watercolor of Cedar Breaks, a crystalline winter scene from Millcreek Canyon, and an iconic view of Mt. Nebo at sunset. Also enjoy park and festival paintings by Karen Horne including children wading in ponds, dogs cavorting in fresh snow, and neon-lit skaters.
