Karen Horne is honored that her colorful painting “Children at the Art Yard” will remain at the State Capitol, after the end of the exhibition “Visions of Rural and Urban Utah.” Members of the State Senate Minority Caucus connected strongly with Karen’s paintings of children during the exhibition, especially this artwork depicting a colorful group at an Utah Arts Festival Art Yard. The caucus requested that this painting, which was purchased by the State in 1999, be installed in their Minority Caucus conference room. Much of their advocacy is for the state’s children.
Karen is so touched to see that her artwork might serve as inspiration. She thanks the Minority Caucus for their interest in her work and also their tireless efforts to improve the well-being of children. In particular, she is appreciative of the efforts of her Senator, Jennifer Plumb.
The painting was originally featured in a two-person show at the Springville Museum, and has been installed in various venues over the years, including the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, at One Utah World Trade Center, in the First Lady’s Office in the State Capitol, and the Gallery at Library Square.
