In 2002, Phyllis Horne and Karen Horne were fortunate to be named two of the 100 “Most Honored Artists of Utah.” The curatorial committee for the major Cultural Olympiad art exhibition, “Utah Art, Utah Artists: 150 Year Survey” worked to select just 100 from the over eight thousand of Utah’s living visual artists of various mediums (painting, sculpture, printmaking etc). Phyllis and Karen Horne were the only mother/daughter artists included on the roster, and to our knowlege, the only parent/child combo to both be designated Honored Artists of Utah, a lifetime election.
The plaques were presented to the artists at a memorable ceremony at the Springville Museum of Art with Director Vern Swanson presiding.
